Wilshire Collection Planters

I-Plants Magazine, published by Johnson Fediw Associates, recently held their eighth annual International Design Contest which recognizes some of the top green wall, moss wall art, urbanscape, holiday décor and interiorscape designers across the world. Per I-Plants Magazine, “Entries were judged on the uniqueness and innovation of their design; innovative use of materials; appropriateness for the space; and satisfaction of the client.” On the Ledge, owner Joanne Greene, won two awards while using Tournesol Siteworks’ products! We’d like to congratulate On the Ledge for winning the Gold Award in the Rooftop Gardens category for their "Bronzeville Rooftop" project and for also winning the Gold Award for the "Chatham Business Association" project in the Containers category.

Aquarian Planters

These two winning projects were similar in that Tournesol Siteworks’ pots and planters were the main focus of each project, yet different because of the planters’ shapes, styles and sizes.

Bronzeville-Rooftop-Wilshire

The Bronzeville Rooftop (Gold Award Winner) project sits atop a 100-year old Greystone garage in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago, IL, owned by a young couple who had moved back to their childhood neighborhood and restored the home. In order to refurbish the rooftop so that the young couple and their young daughter would have an area to play, they reached out to Joanne Greene of On the Ledge for her expertise. Interestingly, part of the design needed to include two colorful wicker stools that one of the owners kept since she was a child. They designed the space with a new look and feel, and where the family could enjoy spending quality time.

Downtown Collection planters

Tournesol Siteworks’ round Downtown Collection planters were chosen in size 36”Dia. X 34”H, manufactured in lightweight FRP fiberglass, in our Chocolate color. Our Wilshire Collection rectangular planters (also FRP) sized 48”L x 29”W 24”H, were also included in the arrangement in a fabulous, bright Canary yellow which brought out the colors in the wicker stools. A variety of plants livened up the planters including White Flower Begonias, Emerald Green Arborvitaes, Quick Fire Hydrangeas. The family is so happy with the outcome of their new rooftop area, enabling them to hangout, entertain and spend time together.

Chatham-Aquarian-planters

The Chatham Business Association (Gold Award Winner) project successfully brought Chicago businesses and neighborhoods together. CBA is a business resource center offering customer services and programs created to assist businesses in the South Side neighborhoods. The organization got together and conceived a program to update and beautify the neighborhood with a unique design including Chicago’s only upright planters.

On the Ledge assisted CBA with choosing Tournesol Siteworks’ eye-catching Aquarian Collection planters made of lightweight FRP Fiberglass. Aquarian planters were selected in a Tier 1, Natural Sand finish, tall and round in the color Italian Terra Cotta. Plant installation included Asparagus Ferns, Mandevilla, Pansies, Ferns, Petra Crotons, Morning Dew Tropicals, and Coral Bells - what a beautiful selection. Joanne Greene, owner of On the Ledge, stated this design was chosen for two reasons, “1. The containers themselves would be part of the ‘look,’ and that 2. The mouth of the containers would be small enough so seasonal plant changes would be affordable.” The project looks wonderful and Joanne was thrilled, she says, “We were creative and completed the show-stopping look the client wanted.”

Aquarian Large commercial planters

We’re excited On the Ledge won not only one Gold Award, but two in one contest! And we’re delighted they chose our planters for the winning combinations. Per Kathy Fediw, LEED AP ID+C, CLP, CLT, publisher of I-Plants Magazine, these awards are for projects, “unique for their design and use of materials. This team really thought outside the box to bring their clients and their visitors something truly special.” Regarding all of the winners, she said, ‘“These innovative projects are an inspiration to others in the design industry and really showcase what can be done with live plants, living walls, moss wall art and holiday decor. We are very proud to recognize their talents and to celebrate the fresh and innovative design work that they are bringing to their clients and their community.”’
